I yesterday told you how some people don’t even believe in official statistics, claiming that they are just fake. Using yesterday’s example, they will just insist that there is no such thing as marital rape, even though a survey by the United Nations shows that the percentage of the same is very high in India! Today I would like to write more about this illusion that religious and traditional people live in.
Religion creates an illusionary world for believers to live in. In this world, it doesn’t matter how many people tell you that there are husbands who rape their wives, this doesn’t exist. You just won’t believe it because in your world, people live in joint families, everybody has their place, women obey their husbands or fathers and they, in turn, take care of them. You close your eyes and just pretend that official statistics are wrong because they don’t fit into this illusion.
A lot of people know that this is wrong. That their world of illusion is fake and that information from outside which they refuse to accept is actually true. Many of them even contribute in spreading this illusion even further by preaching about it, performing ceremonies and similar acts.
There are however also others who actually and truly believe in this illusion. They are just blind to anything other people tell them. Upon an argument, they just shut down and refuse. They will walk away from such a discussion and just not response anymore because you could shatter the walls of their fake world with your words!
So there are two kinds of people living in this world: hypocrites who know it is wrong and blind sheep who are too scared to actually open their eyes. Either you see exactly what is wrong but go this way nevertheless, telling others lies the whole time. Or you close your eyes to reality, following someone who is guiding you without questioning the purpose or truth of the setting you are living in.
What would you rather want to be?
The alternative is to open your eyes and be honest about what you see. Step out of this illusionary world. Go one step further and actually watch this world break down and fall apart around you once you actively start thinking and questioning yourself.
I promise, in the end you will feel free and relieved, able to think yourself.
