Heute sind Thomas und Iris nach Essen gekommen, um uns zu besuchen. Noemi hat uns ein wundervolles Abendessen gekocht und Thomas und Iris haben einen wundervollen Nachtisch mitgebracht: Halwa, das meine Mutter gemacht hat. Die beiden sind erst vor einigen Tagen aus Indien zurück und haben uns von ihrem Indien-Besuch erzählt und einige schöne Bilder gezeigt.
Dann haben Ramona und ich auch von unserer Schottland-Reise und unserer Gastgeberin Julie erzählt. Sie ist ein sehr besonderer Charakter. Sie ist sehr glücklich, fröhlich und positiv, egal was los ist. Ich glaube, sie weiß nicht, was Stress ist. Ich habe in den letzten Tagen über Positivität geschrieben und ich sehe hier oft, dass die Menschen sich beschweren und sehr negativ sind. Ich sehe Menschen hier, die sehr organisiert sind und oft über-organisiert. Sie sind immer pünktlich und werden deshalb so gestresst.
Aber Julie ist das komplette Gegenteil. Ich glaube, sie könnte hier in Deutschland nicht existieren. Sie ist etwas chaotisch, aber auf eine so unschuldige Weise, dass man sie einfach lieben muss. Als wir angekommen sind, sagte sie mir, dass sie micht damit überraschen wollte, dass sie diesmal organisiert ist, aber im nächsten Moment merkte sie schon, dass sie ihren Kalender zu Hause vergessen hat. Wenn du einen Plan hast und ihr davon erzählst, ist sie enthusiastisch und unterstützt dich. Diese Energie ist einfach wundervoll. Ich habe mich also an unsere schöne Zeit mit ihr und ihrer Familie erinnert und wir hatten einen wunderschönen Abend.

I actually downloaded most of the items on that list by googling “weird rules in the Bible” then added a couple more and edited the list for grammar and punctuation errors and clarity. The list paraphrases and shortens what is actually said in the scripture passages, and in some cases I changed a word so it would sound a bit funnier. Like I changed the word “cheats” to “cheateth.” I looked up some of the passages to make sure of accuracy and found them to be correct. Some of the actual passages are actually much more horrifying, like the ones that say you should kill people if they have another god. Those guys meant business! I love many scriptures, which contain much great wisdom as well as nonsense. The problem is not in the scriptures, which are just books like any other from times past, but peoples’ mystifications of them and superstitions about them and beliefs that they’re written by gods. I’ve always approached them just as interesting books to read and think about, just like the many hundreds or thousands of books I’ve read. If they’re just approached as books like any other, there shouldn’t be any problems with them. The Bible is a product of 4th century Rome, which put its own cultural stamp on it, making many decisions according to their cultural ideology about what to leave in or out. Not typically having much knowledge of history, most Christians don’t seem to understand that Christianity existed for 300 years before there was even such a Bible. They think that the Bible is the word of God, but it’s actually the word of ancient Rome, as Rome decided to assemble various old documents into one book. Just understand facts instead of false beliefs and superstitions, and there’s no problem with scriptures.
There are also some weird rules in the Koran: “Those who make war against God and his apostle . . . shall be put to death or crucified” (Koran 5.33). In general I wouldn’t say, that such cruel ideas can only be found in the Bible and in the Koran. Every holy book is holding a part of cruelty.
The bible was written as a guide to life, and so while obviously containing spiritual guidance and being a good way god can speak to us, it also gave advice on health and other matters. Verses that told people not to eat bloodied meat or plant crops in the same field for instance were probably written as a health guide, as at the time bloodied meat contained bacteria etc which could lead to disease, whilst several crop types harmed the growth of each other. Coincidentally records show Israel had an incredibly high health rating for the time (although obviously these won’t be that detailed!) Many other verses exist that at first glance seem bizarre, such as the advice not to tattoo yourself, although at the time people involved with necromancy tattooed themselves, so again it was probably contemporary advice to stay away from that side of things rather than strange commands with no real logic behind them. In Christianity nothing really is obligatory, as that would defeat love and god is love, rather we realise that is how god wants us to live, in the same way a husband would respect the way his wife wants to live.
If god was loving he would atleast cut us some slack. Who ever wrote this wasn’t god’s rules. They just put it there to scare us and to try to control our lives. I think we should burn the bible you also go crazy just by reading it. The last person that was trying to decode the end of the world was crazy. I’m catholic but still think that religion is bullshhh. I don’t think the world is going to end anytime soon. I believe in recarnation because god is loving and I think he would give us a second chance.people from church go by my bus stop while waiting to go to work or school. They come up to me all the time saying if I read the bible I said no. Then they said if I don’t pray or read the bible I’m going to hell. I said well that’s not true I told them to get out of my face cause I don’t have time for crap. I think people who read the bible are curious.
