Travelling Adventures with Toilet and Shower – 31 Aug 11

Today we will be travelling again. We are going to fly back to India. We will reach home tomorrow in the morning and of course we are all looking forward to be back at the Ashram again. At the Ashram everyone is excited that we will come. I know we will reach there tomorrow morning tired after the long journey but happy to be home.

Travelling has nearly always been a part of my life. I was travelling with my father as a child, as a teenager I started travelling in India on my own and until today I have spent so much time in cars, trains and planes that I really feel very comfortable with any kind of journey.

I remember when we were travelling by car in India, we had many funny experiences. When we travelled far across the country, we were sometimes several days on the road. I clearly remember how we often stopped at the side of the road when we saw a field which had a ‘tube-well’, a well that distributes water by force onto the field. It pumps it up from the ground and then spreads it onto the field. We got out of the car and used the nice strong water to take a shower and refresh ourselves, right there on the field. It was always lots of fun.

As we travel so much, we also often have food on trains. I usually don’t really like or eat food in planes, so we also take care to eat properly before longer flights. We really take care not to upset our eating rhythm too much and when you have long travels, you can usually nicely take your food along and eat it on the way, too.

Other necessities of the body have to be done there then, too. On Sunday, when we were on the way back from Bonn to Wiesbaden, I felt pressure on the bladder and wanted to go in the train to relieve this pressure. The train toilet however was broken with a sign in front of the door reading ‘out of order’. That was not good but we had nearly reached Koblenz where we were supposed to change. So I thought I could as well go to toilet in the next train.

We arrived in Koblenz, brought our luggage from one platform to the next and got into our connecting train to Wiesbaden. Once our luggage was stowed, I went in direction toilet. When I reached there though, the ladies sitting closer to the toilet told me that this one was broken, too! In the meantime it was not only my bladder that notified me of an emergency situation but my intestines, too! I went back to Yashendu and Ramona and told them what we needed to do: we had to get off at the next station and find a toilet there! There was only one toilet in the small train and that was out of order.

We still had one hour to go. I might have been able to ignore the pressure but why? That would totally upset my digestive system! We got off the train, knowing that the next one would come in one hour. We found a toilet and I was happy that I had decided this. We waited for the next train and reached Wiesbaden one hour late but I was then hungry enough to eat the nice food Thomas and Iris had prepared as a welcoming dinner.

We just said goodbye to them again after only two days here but we know that we will see them soon again in India. So there is no reason to be sad but every reason to look forward to reach India soon.

Haha, I can imagine how you get off that train just to go to toilet! Your belly is important, that is true! No German person would have done that though, I am sure!Love

As much as I love travelling, I have to say that there are also a lot of things during the time when you are abroad, that are not very pleasant. Of course our body also “feels” the journey. We can’t sleep, have problems with toiletts, some people suddenly have a splitting headache, others have to vomit as soon as they enter an airplane and so on. Nevertheless, I think, all these little problems are worth that. Just think about the great people and experiences when you travel!
