Free and Personal Data on the Internet – 14 May 10

I always find it amazing how many things you can find out through the internet. If you just compare it with times not very long ago, when all kind of scientific information could only be found in big encyclopedias for which you had to go into libraries or pay a lot of money. Everything, really everything, is on the internet nowadays.

But as anybody can put anything online, there is always a chance of information being wrong, misguiding or biased. And anybody can take information out, even personal information about you of which you sometimes don’t even know that it is online.

I was thinking a little bit about this and if it is a good or a bad thing that everything is open and free on the internet. If you put your personal data online, there is always a chance that someone can misuse it which is of course negative. But on the other hand, if you are honest and just a little bit careful about what you click on and what you publish, you cannot do much wrong. For us it is anyway a different story because our main medium of communication is the internet. We have to be reachable and we want people to know exactly where we are so that they can come and meet us at any time.

In a few minutes we will start our journey to the US. Thomas will take us to the airport, to Iris we said good-bye in the morning already. We know we will be back here again in six weeks and for now we are looking forward to a good time in New York.
