Dear Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh,
I hope you are fine even in this time of trouble for your government. I respect you very much, not only because you are the Prime Minister of our country, but also because you had an excellent career in administration and politics and have preserved a clean and stainless image. I believe that the present time is the hardest time for you in your post as Prime Minister.
There is no doubt that the government has failed completely when trying to handle the current situation in the country with Anna Hazare’s protest.
You did not want to let people have a peaceful, non-violent protest, which is their right, you put ridiculous conditions in front of them, which they could never accept, you arrested them, had your three top ministers justify this arrest but then tried to release them just some hours later. This whole drama showed the nation that you are not able to handle the situation.
I always liked your way, your peacefulness, calmness and intellect in your speeches. I did not however like your speech in parliament about the current issues. You heard yourself how the opposition leader Arun Jaitley has torn apart your statement word by word in a replying speech. And he was right! The BJP and the RSS are now fully in support of Anna Hazare’s protest but I warned Anna in my letter to him already that their main aim is not supporting his cause but to get popularity and to oppose the government.
On Independence Day, the 15th August, you asked Anna Hazare not to do his fast, you would make a strong law against corruption. Do you really think the bill that your government has prepared is strong enough? To me it looks like a joke!
I am of course not saying that Anna Hazare’s Jan Lokpal bill is perfect. In my opinion many corrections are needed there, too. But do you really think this is the issue, whether it is your bill or Anna’s bill that makes it? Is it Anna Hazare’s Jan Lokpal Bill versus the government’s Lokpal Bill?
The whole country is burning. We all see how the fire has spread. Everybody is fed up with the corruption which has become a normal part of every Indian person’s daily life. Those who have thought they would need to live with this for the rest of their lives got the hope that life could be without corruption, too! The young ones as well as the older ones are out on the streets to show their support for a cause that they thought they could do nothing about. They were angry about the government, the scandals and scams and their angry, hot, young blood was boiling. Now they think their dream of a corruption-free India could come true. They came out on the streets and are with Anna Hazare.
I am sure that most of them don’t even know the difference between the bill proposed by you and the bill proposed by Anna Hazare. But if you ask them, they know exactly what they are fighting against: corruption!
This is what it is all about: the fight against corruption. Seeing international news while being here in Germany, I feel ashamed about the corruption of India that they all talk about. India has a very bad reputation in terms of corruption and this image hurts me but the government still seems to defend it!
What are you planning to do about this? The government already failed to handle this properly in the first place but what can you do now? I wrote a letter to Anna, too, and in that I told him that the government loses its cause if they give you the permission to have a protest. Now he has the permission for 15 days and is sitting there with his supporters, singing devotional songs for the country.
The main point is not the Lokpal Bill and who wrote it. For general people the point is corruption and that is what they are angry about!
Some members of your cabinet are already in sitting in the same jail where Anna Hazare started his fast from and some more are waiting in queue to maybe go there as well. I feel pain when I read in newspapers ‘Dr. Manmohan Singh is no more Mr. Clean’. You are the head of the government and your ministers, those with whom you were sitting and governing India, are in prison. Did you not know that they were corrupt? And what about those who are now accused of corruption? In all honesty, did you not know about their corruption? Don’t you know that they should be in prison, not in government? You are clean but your team has quite a few thieves among them! Your image is getting worse, it is time to change something!
I was thinking about your situation and of course there are many political advisors who have a lot of good ideas but I also thought I could give you some advice, me only being a normal Indian citizen.
I would say, just resign from your post and your party and join the fight against corruption. I know, when you were asked in February whether you would resign due to the corruption scandals, you answered with a strong ‘No!’ but now the time has come to clearly fight against corruption. You had enough. I would request Anna Hazare to put a bed beside his where you can have your fast. It is not about joining Anna Hazare, it is about fighting corruption! This will wash your image white and clean again. People will understand that you are really and truly interested in the well-being of the country. Simply resign. I am sure Anna Hazare won’t mind having you sit next to him. Make it clear that it is not about the bill, not about whose idea is written in there. No, you are only there to support the fight against corruption.
I know corruption will not finish with a magic spell, we need to change the mindset of people in general. If you take this step, it will be a great example of a change of mindset and people will follow.
I wish you all the best and send you lots of love,

I would love to know what Mr. Prime Minister would reply to this suggestion to sit together with Anna Hazare. But without doubt Anna has managed to make the government look dirtier than ever. They have accepted his main terms now and he stopped his fast but we all will wait for the government to really act – otherwise we will be fasting there again!
GREAT that’s exactly what the time is asking now! I truly like your Idea and it would be his only chance to give his missery a dignified turne. This kind of man is respectet highly and always a example for moral values, honesty and strength … this is a Yoga way !
