I recently had a small lecture with an attached meditation and I was asked to talk about positivity. How should one stay positive with all the negative news in the world and, most of all, with so many negative people around you all the time?
Actually, the first solution to this problem is very simple: don’t let anybody influence you, don’t let them put you down. But how?
As far as the news and the bad situation of this world are concerned, I have to say you need to accept the fact that you are only a small individual on this world and are not responsible for whole countries making war against each other! It is beyond your influence. Do your own contribution by voting or supporting charities – live your life correctly and make your own world good. Even if the people around you are very negative!
It happens often: you are in a good mood and tell another person about your plans or ask whether he would join you for something. Instead of a happy reply, encouragement or approval however, you get an uninterested reply, the other one tells you of the dangers and problems with your idea. The result: you are discouraged, in a bad mood and don’t even want to think about those formerly so great plans anymore!
Let me tell you something: the other one is most probably not even that much against your plans. He just wants to have some extra attention. That he gets by simply being against it. Then you make an effort to convince him, you try and talk and explain – much more than he would get if he said that it was a great idea!
Obviously, others may really see your plan as not really fantastic and tell you about it, too. You will notice however when someone only talks against whatever you say – it cannot be that you always have bad ideas, plans and suggestions, can it?
So instead of giving importance to their talk, just know that they have their own issues which are the reason for reacting in this way. Instead of reacting negative as well, think of this and stay positive!
If you have trouble with that, if you lie in bed in the evening and just think that it was a bad day which will probably be followed by another one like it, I have one small tip for you: take a piece of paper and write down five things on that day which made you smile. Do it just before going to bed. Whenever you feel negative, take this list and have a look at what beautiful, funny and good things happen to you! After a year, you will have 1825 things that made you smile – aren’t you a really rich person?
Keep the positive things in mind whenever you feel others are spreading their negativity – they cannot if you don’t let them!
