Dim, red Light, naked Dancers and Waitresses – just a bit too much for me – 5 Jan 14

When I was in Australia in 2006, I remember an experience that remained the only one of its kind in my life until today and I believe I won’t need to make it again: for the first and last time of my life I visited a night club. Not just a discotheque, one of those establishments where there are poles with naked ladies wrapping themselves around and scarcely to not at all clad waitresses serving you drinks.

Well, you may have difficulties believing this but I have always been an open person and especially when travelling, I was always ready to make new experiences. So when this one man, whom I had met already a year ago and with whom I had started a friendship, came for an individual session and asked me afterwards whether I would like to go out an evening I said yes. He then thought about where to take me and just asked ‘Would you like to see a night club?’

I actually did not have much of an idea what that term ‘night club’ exactly described but I was not too naïve either. I had been in a disco before and I also knew that there were night clubs with more offers than just music and drinks, but I didn’t ask him. I told him ‘I can go anywhere’ and meant it – had he asked me to go to a church with him or to an art auction, I would probably have gone as well. I actually did not really think much and just accepted an offer by someone who wanted to take me out.

When we entered the club however, I suddenly realized what place I had landed in. Well, I thought, now you are here, you might as well have a look what such a place looks like. The theme colour was red, with red walls, curtains and dim lights. In the main room, there were platforms on which I could see poles – and the dancers that did what I would normally admire as a perfect practice of strength and balance. The fact that they were naked though, somehow did not really give priority to the athletic abilities of those ladies.

There were naked young women walking around the room and I noticed that even the waitresses delivered drinks without any clothes to men admiring the dancers. Once I had a rough idea of what was happening in this room, the man who had taken me along showed me a room by the side: there were sofas and comfortable chairs on which men were sitting and drinking – and on a few laps there were naked women, dancing, kissing or just sitting and giving them company in drinking.

We went back into the first room and I believe it was then, after just about ten minutes, that I asked my company whether we could leave. It was just all a bit much for me. I had enough after some minutes. I believe there is no problem with having sex, I don’t have any problem with nudity but there was somehow an underlying feeling that these women are there up for sale. All the women in that club were naked – but not one man! I had been to many countries’ naked beaches where everyone was naked and just enjoying the way we naturally are. In that club however, there was a fully different atmosphere and somehow it made me feel that there was a lack of respect for women. It was there and then that I thought this was my first and last time in such an establishment.

And before anyone says that I have changed a lot in my life and you might never know – no, I think I may change in many directions but not in this one. 🙂
