A part of my body is being torn out. Violently and bloody.
But I feel nothing.
Objection is impossible – my tongue is numb, like paralyzed, unable to produce more than slurred sounds.
I let it happen. I accept my fate.
I stay calm, through the grinding of the machines, the tearing of my own flesh. Blinking an eye, wincing just once, nothing else.
Above me, there is a light. It is bright, so bright that the rest of the room lies in obscure shadows. Not inviting at all. This cannot be the end.
Suddenly, my upper body is straightened up and I look down on what was once a part of me.
Two pieces, like bones, four small legs, twisted and bent, broken.
I feel their absence, like a hole in my flesh. It left traces.
Goodbye, my wisdom teeth, goodbye!

Author of this text: my wife Ramona. Written not long after the surgical procedure in which the two lower of her wisdom teeth were removed day before yesterday. Don’t worry, she is fine and definitely already over the loss. 🙂
