Every Sunday I now share something with you which is going on at the Ashram, on my mind or in my life. Today, this will be a very personal insight to my private life. No wait – to my wife’s life! Or to my life with my wife – as you wish to see it!
You all know that Ramona comes from Germany. German people are quite known for their organization and planning skills. My wife is no exception. While I would normally say she is not a typical, stereotyped German person, Ramona loves plans. A system, an organized and thought-through way of handling pretty much any action. There is a plan and if it doesn’t work according to plan A, it should work according to plan B.
The result is that there is a certain… well, let’s call it inflexibility when it comes to spontaneous changes in the plan. 🙂
I am a very spontaneous person. I really usually don’t plan ahead most of the times. You can imagine the result: I blurt out what I think, suggesting to do something different than planned on relatively short notice – and Ramona gets quite disturbed.
Given a few minutes however, when she has had time to give it a thought, it can really all be fine because she understands it was actually a sensible, reasonable suggestion, could be fun or is not actually disturbing the plan as much as it seemed!
After eight years together, I am used to hearing a vehement ‘No!’ as the first reaction to anything unusual I might say, just to hear later that it might actually be considered. 🙂
This morning however I mused about one situation in which she greatly differs not only from the typical German character but from what I believe women in general do: when it comes to wearing clothes.
This is the one area of life where my wife can be very spontaneous and flexible! I hear that women plan, just like Germans and my wife do for every bit of life, what exactly they want to wear for a certain event. To this point, my wife does exactly the same. A plan on what to wear.
When it comes to actually putting on the clothes however, it doesn’t matter whether we are talking about a regular day or a special event, it always goes something like this: she wears the pre-selected clothes. She doesn’t like them. Within the first two minutes of wearing them, she takes them all off again and puts on something different. Repeat the steps above once, twice or even thrice more.
Yes, once or twice she usually changes clothes, no matter whether it is a regular day or a special event, how long in advance she had planned on wearing that particular dress or whether it is new or already tested and approved. The reason can be that she doesn’t like the look of it or that she just doesn’t feel good in it!
There can be a plan but when it comes to the moment of execution, she can be the most spontaneous person of all!
