Today we had Darshan in an art gallery of young artists. These artists have several buildings in which they work and where they present their work. We were in one of their rooms and as they have a celebration going on this week there were many people around. Many people were walking outside the building and also came into it to have a look which disturbed the silence of the meditation. It was not really quiet and I need silence to get into the kind of trance of meditation.
Then people also had their mobile phones on and one started ringing. Another woman started typing something in her mobile while I was talking. I do not understand why people come to a meditation with a mobile or don’t switch it off. I said her to forget the mobile and to switch it off, it is anyway only for one or two hours in which she is not reachable. I suggested that if it was very urgent she could do this outside, too.
I do not compromise with the quality of what I want to give. If you come and want to have a meditation maybe for the first time in your life, you cannot do it in a supermarket. I said this very clearly because this was what I felt. I teach exactly this in a Darshan: be who you are and let it out, whatever you have inside! So there was a lot of agitation in the beginning and we did not really find the peace for meditation. However finally someone found a way to lock the door and it got much more quiet and peaceful. This helped us to have a nice meditation in the end and I think then everybody enjoyed it.

Meditation is not effortless. And at the same time meditation is about a lack of effort. When you are meditating it is important to cease to try to do anything. And this requires a great deal of concentration. The goal; consciousness without thought.
Suprised that people like this go to meditation.
Having distractions while meditating basically defeats the purpose and makes it very difficult. But as you become better at meditation, you can start to tune out and ignore the distractions. But if you are trying to teach beginners, then no way!
