When we talked about the reason why western people get so fascinated by the idea of having Siddhis, Ramona and I had another idea. Our initial argument against it was that they should not believe in such things because they are educated and know that there is a scientific reason for everything. That brought us to the idea that maybe exactly this is why they believe in Siddhis: because they want to believe in something inexplicable!
The life in the west is from the very beginning designed to explain you why things are happening the way they are happening. There is an explanation for everything, there is science behind everything. Your life is relatively predictable and like everybody else’s. There are no miracles and no magic events.
You go to work and there you do what you can. Unfortunately however, there is a lot of pressure and stress. You have to do more and more. Everyone around you is selfish and thinks of his own success, so you have to do the same. At the same time you are supposed to care for what is good for your bosses. When you achieved something, it was because of hard work and can be explained. All in all, it just gets too much, you get depression and burnout.
While there is an explanation for everything, there are things that cannot be changed. Your beloved friend got cancer and it is incurable. There is an exact explanation of how the cancer was developed but there is no treatment that would be a 100% cure without risks. Or you cannot find a partner and all your relationships break. A psychologist may have an explanation but you don’t know how to fix it. People are exhausted from this life in which they know that everything has a reason but where there are often no solutions!
Then you hear of someone who can actually materialize gold and heal everybody. What? Materialize gold? Impossible by the laws of physics! And heal any kind of disease? Medically impossible! But thousands believe in it – could it be true? You are fascinated. Could it be real? Is there a possibility that this man can do what nobody else can? And even more interesting, could he teach me to do this, too?
In a world where there is no mystery and no miracle, this little glimmer of magic can create an inner fire. The result is that they run behind such Gurus. It could be the wish to achieve wealth without doing much for it. It could be the aim to get healthy or to heal which cannot be healed. Whatever it is, the Gurus know what people want and they have prepared their product. The market in the west was ready and so they just had to sell their product and it was successful!
This could be an explanation why people in the west want to believe in Siddhis. In their world they have to work hard to achieve material wealth. If they can do it with just one blow, a snip of the finger and a mantra, they would not need to get stressed and unhappy for it! Additionally, life could be more charming, it could have some mysteries and not everything would need to have an explanation. When you don’t understand something, you don’t have to find the explanation but can just say ‘This must be the work of God/the Guru/the universe’.
Unfortunately this is an illusion and you run away from your problems and reality. See the world as it is and accept it. Don’t take pressure to understand everything and accept that even if you don’t know it, there will be an explanation. Most of all, don’t let any magician cheat you with his magic tricks.

I like this explanation of the state of mind of western people. It is true, there is no mystery anymore in our world. That is also the reason for the popularity of all those science-fiction movies in the last years. People cannot get enough of the idea of another world with magical contents!
