Getting my Ligament fixed a second Time – 28 Apr 14

So today is Monday and as I promised on Thursday, I will today tell you everything about my surgery on Friday and how I am now. In fact, I feel really good.

On Wednesday we went to the doctor and took the spontaneous decision to do the surgery before going to Germany. On Thursday I went to vote and on Friday, at 8 am, I was admitted to the hospital. After getting a room, some checkups and several further preparations, I had surgery at 12 o’clock and was out again already after about an hour. Everything had gone perfectly fine.

We went to the same hospital where Apra was born, a big and very good hospital in Gurgaon, near the Delhi airport. The doctors there are very experienced and I was told that the surgeon who performed my operation was one of the world’s specialists of sports injuries. We like the hospital, the nurses are nice and very attentive and I can trust the team that takes care of me – very important to feel good during surgery!

Yes, during surgery, as I was awake the whole time after an epidural anesthesia numbing the lower half of my body. I didn’t feel a thing until some hours later, feeling returned to my toes and then painfully to my knees as well. A painful night followed but in the morning the painkiller finally worked and with the help of modern medicine, I already was sitting on Saturday morning and, just about 24 hours after the surgery, had my first physiotherapy session.

It is amazing: not even a day after a surgery of my knee, I was exercising it, moving and then finally stood up and walked. A few hours later we were on the way home.

Now I am resting, doing my exercise every three hours and don’t walk any more than necessary. I feel great. Of course there is still pain but when it is too strong, there is medicine to help it. The main thing is that it is now healing pain and it is getting better every day.

Day after tomorrow we will go for a checkup again and then there is one more appointment for taking the stitches out. We have already rescheduled our plans, changed the ticket and will fly to Germany on 15th May. So all in all, we only got late with our plans for about two weeks. But my leg is healing now and until we will be back in India, I am sure I will be already walking normally again!
