Switch off the Mind and Feel your Feelings – 15 Jan 2010

In my work I meet a lot of people. At the majority of them I can notice one thing: they are too much in the mind. People are thinking too much. The mind is always active, always working hard. There is hardly a minute when it calms down. Even when they are doing nothing the mind is active. The problem with this is that they do not listen to their feelings because they are always occupied with what their mind is telling them. It is not even possible to recognize a feeling, a motion of the heart unless it is very intensive. People are not sensitive for their own feelings anymore. I always say: You have to come down, from head to heart, from thinking to feeling. Switch off the mind sometimes and listen to what your heart says. Then you will discover your true feelings. This is a process which develops and comes slowly. There is no button to switch off the mind. But the first step is to see and feel your own feelings. This topic is very interesting and maybe I will write a bit more tomorrow but for today I am too tired. It is late already; we were eating ice-cream and were playing billiard on a mini-pool-table. I will go to bed now.

Easier said than done to let your emotions flow. Some people have never even been shown how. But I agree that it is crucially important.

Can you separate the two? People distinguish between thought and emotion all the time, but I think you can’t have one without the other.

Was talking to someone the other day about our inner personal stories and how reciting our stories to ourselves overlaid on top of emotions is what make emotions hard to deal with. If we could just get rid of our stories, minds, and feel… we could be so free!

It’s really important that we learn how to silence the mind. Many people live most of their lives without realizing that they are NOT their minds!! They believe that the mind is the Self and so whatever it thinks is what they must be. So untrue! When you recognize that the mind is one aspect of consciousness and that it’s not always right, you can find much more peace. By calming the mind, we can listen to the heart and soul. We can feel, love, and just be.
