Tomorrow will be Diwali day. In India it is the biggest celebration just like people celebrate Christmas in western countries. It is also called the festival of lights and people decorate their houses with candles and electric lights. You exchange gifts and eat a lot of sweets. Of course the celebrations have their background in Hindu mythology and still today it is the day to worship the Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of money. People wish others and of course themselves prosperity.
Well, that is all very nice but with a thousand good aspects there are also always some bad ones. And as people think that this day is a day of good luck, many of them also do gambling on this day. So this is the most popular day in India for gambling and some people risk really a lot of money. It has even become a kind of tradition. They don’t seem to understand that some people also need to lose so that others can win. How can it be a lucky day for everyone?
On this example you can see how far traditions reach. People have started believing that it is a good tradition to gamble for luck on this day. Hard-core gamblers play for millions. They have an excuse to do what they like on this day. But even people who regard gambling as something bad and who in the whole year never spend a penny for it do it on Diwali. They gamble and put money in betting, but they do it with an amount that equals 10 Cent. They believe that they should play for money, even if it is only a little bit. Gambling is bad, but on this day it should be done because it will give you prosperity the whole year long. So even though you think it is wrong, you do it because your parents taught you to do it.
I really don’t see why you need to put your money in this! If you play a game for celebrating it is great, but why do you need to use money for it? And why exactly on this day if you never ever do it and believe it is wrong? Then why do you even use your 10 Cent for this? Old traditions and Goddesses should not become an excuse for gambling!
Tomorrow it will be great if you wish each other prosperity and believe that through honesty and work you get prosper and not through gambling.

I am wondering why holidays are excuses for many people to indulge in the things that make them unhappy.
Vacations and holidays in my family mean trying to relax. It is something like, you are allowed to stop thinking. And because so little attention is paid to the mind this means, for many people, following below thought instead of rising above it. And it seems to make people miserable after just a short while.
I like to relax and work. I get a lot more done.
What an irony: Gambling on a celebration that is most auspicious for conquering inner demons.
Gambling on any day is not a good virtue. One should always use their money wisely, then God blesses with more. He knows how to give and take it back too.
I’ve never really understood gambling. It is a game that plays into risky behavior and greed. The reason why casinos are so wealthy is because gamblers lose more often than they win! I wouldn’t recommend it on any day.
