I already planned yesterday to give you a report of the big celebration in today’s diary and I was really already sure that I would say it was a great party – and it really was!
We were preparing until the last minute. People put up tables and prepared a gate with flowers at the entrance. The musicians arrived and the rest of the food was cooked. Our guests at the Ashram enjoyed the afternoon with a very special task: picking 120 kilograms of rose flower petals. They had a fun time together with the kids of the Ashram and they were looking forward to what surprises would come during the evening.
Around seven o’clock the guests started coming and the music program started. We had invited my old band – the people who had travelled and played with me more than fifteen years ago, in the time when I lived the life of a guru in India. It was wonderful to meet them again, most of them after a very long time, like ten years or more. And they made great music. Thomas joined them with the Sitar and everyone loved listening to them.
Then there was the food – and it was just an amazing array of delicious dishes that made you wonder where to start. We all wanted to taste everything and I think in this way we all ate a bit too much. There were snacks and there was ice-cream, there were different kinds of bread, different vegetable dishes, chickpeas, raita, and more. They had made lassi and a fruit cream and there was an incredible mango dessert, too. We ate, our guests ate, the children of the Ashram ate and everyone loved the food.
I met a lot of friends and they met Apra, most of them for the first time. She, our sunshine was of course the star of the evening!
In the end, when everyone was full, we had a great dance party and have all the flour petals rain down us so that we could dance on a carpet of flowers. In the next days we will upload pictures of the evening but for now we will just cure our hangover from this party – which included not one single drop of alcohol.
Yashendu left in the morning with the group of the Himalaya Retreat towards Rishikesh. They are now off to have their adventure in the great mountains and I am sure they will come back with fantastic stories about their experience.
Jochen, Renate, Michael and Andrea are still here at the Ashram and we are looking forward now to spend the next days a bit more calmly.
