Now it is May already and in a week our little baby girl Apra will be four months old. When we look at old pictures and think back of the first days of her life, we are again and again amazed by her fast development. The first third of her first year will be over now and she has nearly doubled her birth weight, has grown so much and is now so active! She has learned a lot and one of those things she learned is how to use the full capacity of her lungs to scream. Yes, our little, calm girl has learned to shout and scream.
It was six days ago that it happened the first time. We were sitting around outside in the evening, Apra on Babbaji’s lap. We were talking about different things and Babbaji, sitting on the swing, let her just sit there, with a little support of his hands, and look around. She was obviously bored by this and started crying, still in her normal volume. Purnendu lifted her up and walked around in circles around us. She was quiet for a minute but then she started, without any warning, to loudly cry, no, actually shout, just by his ear! We nearly all jumped up, wondering what had happened. Purnendu quickly checked if she was hurt somewhere but he knew already that this could not be the reason – he had been careful as usual! She had just had food and was not wearing a diaper that could have been wet! What was up?
Purnendu tried his best to soothe her but she would not be quiet, so he passed her to Ramona. There she was happy for another short minute before she started again. She came into my lap and Ramona and I started walking down the path towards the gate. On the way she stopped crying and started looking towards the lights at the road. Having arrived at the gate we stood, watching the cars, motorbikes and bicycles driving buy. She was fascinated and happy.
This was one day and we were happy to think that this was just her mood. Well, it happened every consequent day since that she started shouting and crying for no apparent reason – the solution is always the same: make a fuss about her, hold her, swing her, talk to her, sing to her and finally walk to the gate, stand at the side of the road and let her watch the traffic go by.
We now laugh about this ritual. There is this girl, weighing a tenth of my own weight and shouting just once to get the complete attention of the whole family. She anyway has lots of attention but at that moment she just enjoys watching our reaction.
Throughout the rest of the day however, she remains our happy and jolly little girl. She has learned to roll around to her belly and she can hold her head a bit better on her neck. Now the young boys Pawan, Jay Singh and Mohit can also carry her around. She gurgles, squeaks, laughs and makes other noises in reply to what we say to her. I enjoy making faces and funny noises to get her to laugh.
It is the greatest feeling to hold her at my shoulder and to feel her put her small arm around my neck and each day again it is the highlight of my day when she wakes up in the morning, opens her eyes, comes out of the dreamland, recognizes me and gives me a big broad smile.

What a beautiful little girl! Isn’t is funny that however much love and attention you give to a baby, they still want more. But we get to look at and love them everyday too so it’s all okay.
She is the cutest of babies! So much laughing and smiling always! But obviously she can also scream and shout… don’t worry, just a few years and then this fun will be over, so enjoy it!
